A Pink Cocktail For A Worthy Cause

"Breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women, except for skin cancers.  About 1 in 8 (12%) women in the U.S. will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime." - American Cancer Society

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM), which occurs every October, has a two-fold goal - (1) To build awareness and educate people about this fatal disease and (2) To raise funds towards a cure.  

Pink ribbons become a clothing staple, global landmarks glow pink and local businesses show their support by offering products and services where the entire or a percentage of the revenue goes towards research in finding a cure. 

Jardenea, the farm-to-fork restaurant, nestled in the luxury boutique hotel, The Melrose Georgetown, has concocted a pink-hued cocktail titled 'The Pink Lady' in honor of NBCAM.  Throughout the month, this libation will be available for happy hour (5 PM - 7 PM) every day as part of Jardenea’s 5-5-5 happy hour ($5 cocktails, $5 appetizers, $5 valet), and on the regular cocktail list for $12, and $1 from every 'Pink Lady' sold will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

But remember women are not the only ones affected, men are too. The American Cancer Society 'estimates that in 2015 about 2, 350 new cases of invasive breast cancer in men in the United States will be diagnosed.'

Therefore, in addition to the 'The Pink Lady' at Jardenea (which looks delicious), there are other ways to get involved in NBCAM. Here in the DMV area, you can attend events, volunteer or simply donate online.

So I say ... Go PINK in October and Make a Difference!
