Pintxos Party at SER Restaurant
In honor of SER Restaurant's second annual gastronomic week (October 4 - 9), Executive Chef and Co-Owner Josu Zubikarai teamed up with guest Chef Sara Perez of Spain to celebrate one of Spain's culinary treats - pintxos.
Pintxos are small snacks, normally skewered with bread as a base, that have become a staple at happy hours in recent years and are consumed with a good glass of wine, beer or Basque cider. And some of the best come Chef Zubikarai's native hometown - San Sebastian. So in short, a real authentic treat! Typically you can order them a la carte, but the traditional, and might I add fun way of showcasing these tasty bites is the display. Placed out in the open, individuals can pick and choose what to indulge in that evening, which is exactly how SER highlighted them. So you can literally eat with your eyes.
Now a little bit about celebrated guest Chef Perez. Born and raised in Gasteiz, Vitoria, Spain, she realized her childhood dream of becoming a chef and has since become a specialist in pintxos while working in a variety of restaurants in Spain. After her first time in America (lucky us!), Chef Perez plans on heading to Barcelona to continue her passion.
Chef Zubikarai and Chef Perez, who might I add bring talent but also joy to their cooking, chose to feature an array of their favorite pintxos during this week. Below are some of the ones that I truly reveled in.
SCALLOP IN SAFFRON SAUCE AND HAM
MUSSEL SOUP
CRAB MEAT, LEEKS, CARROT AND ONIONS
TUNA BELLY, SHRIMP, CARROTS AND ONIONS
GREEN ASPARAGUS WITH CAULIFLOWER PUREE AND PINE NUTS
GRILLED OCTOPUS WITH SPINACH AND PEPPER
Today is the last day to treat yourself to pintxos during happy hour (4PM-7PM) or dinner (5PM-10PM), but good news, Chef Zubikarai is exploring the possibility of offering an assortment of pintxos at SER after gastronomic week is over. I for one really hope so!
