Food Truck Friday - Swizzler Foods

Food Truck Friday - Swizzler Foods

Hot dogs are an iconic American food and Swizzler Foods adds a twist (or shall I say swizzle) to them that not only delights the eyes but happily satisfies.

This week, by pure happenstance, I came across this grayish-blue food truck while I was looking for lunch in Franklin Square in Washington, D.C. Once I saw that they had themed hot dogs I knew I wanted to try one. After perusing the menu, I decided on the Abe Froman Chicago style hot dog (fried pickles, herb relish, onions slathered with yellow mustard) with a side of Parmesan truffle fries. [pictured above] Let's just say that I didn't regret my choice. ;-)

An idea conceived by three Wake Forest University students in 2012 - Ben, Zim and Jesse - started off as a way to raise money to head to Rio, Brazil for the 2014 World Cup. But later that year after entering and winning a class wide challenge ('launch a venture over a three-day period and present results') the three men knew that this gourmet hot dog concept would be part of their future. And if you are still wondering if they made it to one of the biggest contested soccer games ever, rest reassured, because they did ;-)

So what makes Swizzler Foods unique? That's easy. Their grass-fed hot dogs (low in fat and high in antioxidants and vitamins) in their signature sizzle stick form snuggled in between a golden outer crust pretzel bun.

Therefore, in short,  if you are looking for your next great bite, then be sure to stop by Swizzler Foods. You can track their delicious activity and daily location on TwitterFacebookInstagram and via the DC Food Truck Fiesta website.

Pro Tip

Stay tuned for next week's Food Truck feature ...
